Monique Howard started her college career at Gloucester County College and Rowan University, where she studied art, animation, and drawing... now she is pursuing writing as her major alongside being artistic. And with a combination of Art and Writing as her academic focus, Monique is sure to become an Author worth following.

About the Artwork

Author, Monique Howard also created the illustrations for The Moon Creeper with watercolor and color pencil. The backgrounds are a blend of paint and color pencil. The characters were done with only color pencil and out lined with marker. Her choice of medium contributes to the childlike attraction of the book, while her skills as an artist are shown in the details and imagery that brings the story alive to the reader.

Every once in a while there is a story that makes one wonder if someone has whispered it into the ear of the writer from beyond.  When reading The Moon Creeper it will kindle memories of stories told around camp fires, and of Native American Folklore.

The Moon Creeper is very imaginative and here is what the author says inspired her to write it:

My idea for The Moon Creeper came about by seeing an old twisted tree with gnarled branches. I wondered what would happen if a little furry creature called a Creeper climbed the tree hoping to catch star dust."
                                   - Monique Howard

The Moon Creeper takes readers into outer space where a wolf-like creature dwells on the moon and longs for friendship.  Magical moon dust empowers him to become afloat and eventually he has a crash landing in a tree.  He has landed in China, where a young girl is awakened from sleep.  She greets the wounded animal and cares for him.

The young girl and The Moon Creeper seem to bond, fulfilling his desire for friendship. As a gift for her kindness she is taken for a ride to Saturn where her finger is adorned with a golden Saturn ring.  After returning to earth the two depart.  The Moon Creeper returns to his home, only this time he can dream of his new friend far away.
